IALPG was proud to contribute to the evolution of the Space Activities Act 1998, by making a submission to the Inquiry of the Senate Economics Legislation Committee on the Space Activities Amendment (Launches and Returns) Bill, 2018. Its report was published on the 21st of August. IALPG’s contributions focused on ensuring a safer, more rational interaction between space-related activities and civil aviation activities.

A key contribution from the firm suggested that the role of the Launch Safety Officer, contained in the Space Activities Regulations, should be incorporated into the Act to ensure the relevant level of safety extends to requirements under all legislation, including civil aviation legislation and not only compliance under the Act.

Submissions of these kind are necessary as both space related activity and aviation activity must share the sky in a cooperative manner not only to avoid collisions but to ensure a more secure environment for all.
