On 28 May 2026, at approximately 2100 local time, a static fire test of Blue Origin’s New Glenn rocket at Launch Complex 36, Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, resulted in the destruction of the vehicle.
The rocket was being prepared for its fourth flight (NG-4), which was to deploy Amazon broadband satellites to low Earth orbit. The target launch date for this mission was 4 June 2026.
No injuries or fatalities have been reported. The cause of the incident has not yet been identified.
The FAA indicated to CNN the incident is outside its jurisdiction of 14 CFR Part 450. Oversight and investigation are expected to be conducted by facility operator Space Launch Delta 45. Further obligations upon Blue Origin may also be required under the launch contract or other applicable state or federal law.
